Build a truthful bridge to the new work.

Start with the target role’s work, not its title. For each central requirement, find a real example with a similar action, constraint or outcome. Describe that example in plain language, keep the original setting visible and mark exact, adjacent and missing evidence separately. A career change needs a bridge, not a rewritten past.

1. Separate the title from the work

Job titles vary across employers and countries. Break the target role into observable responsibilities, tools, qualifications and constraints before comparing it with your background.

  • Actions: what the person must do
  • Context: who, what or where the work supports
  • Standards: licences, safety rules or methods that may be mandatory
  • Outcomes: what the work is meant to improve or protect

The requirement extractor keeps each item beside the posting’s source wording.

2. Map evidence by action and outcome

Look across paid work, projects, education, volunteering and caregiving. Comparable evidence may live in a different setting.

Target workCoordinate stakeholders and keep delivery risks visible.

Existing evidenceOrganised community events with venue staff, volunteers and suppliers; maintained a shared issue list.

Honest bridgeCoordinated volunteers, venues and suppliers for community events and tracked open delivery issues through completion.

3. Name the distance honestly

DirectYou performed substantially the same work.
AdjacentThe action or outcome transfers, but context differs.
LearnedYou studied or practised it without workplace ownership.
Not demonstratedYour current materials do not establish it.

“Not demonstrated” is not proof that you cannot do something. It tells you what to clarify, investigate or develop before making your decision.

4. Build the career-change version

  • Keep original employers, titles, dates and credentials unchanged.
  • Lead with the most relevant supported projects and outcomes.
  • Use a short summary to name the direction and evidence—not to declare expertise you have not earned.
  • Explain transferable context inside bullets instead of filling a detached skills list.
  • Create a separate version so the master remains complete.

5. Decide whether the bridge is credible

Apply when central work is supported and remaining gaps are explainable or learnable. Investigate when the posting is ambiguous. Step back when a legal eligibility condition, required licence or central capability is absent and cannot be bridged truthfully.

Compare my evidence with the new role

Review direct, adjacent and not-demonstrated evidence before rewriting.
